The Maldives Police Service has reached out to Interpol for assistance in the search for 43-year-old Thasleem Mohamed, who has been missing since August 31, 2024. Authorities are requesting Interpol to issue a yellow notice in hopes of locating Thasleem, whose disappearance from a sandbank in Kaafu Atoll remains shrouded in mystery.

Thasleem was reported missing after attending a picnic and party event on a sandbank. He was last seen in the early hours of August 30, and extensive search efforts, including Marine Police and Coast Guard dive teams, have covered over 943,998 acres in the surrounding area, but no trace of him has yet been found.

Trip Details and Last Sightings

According to the police investigation, Thasleem left Malé City on August 29 around 5:00 p.m. with a group of 25 adults and two children. The group had organized the trip to celebrate a birthday and host an engagement party. Thasleem had participated in the event to assist with the backdrop and lighting for the party.

He remained active and engaged with other guests until midnight on August 29 before being seen sleeping in a tent. The next morning, on August 30, police say they have video and photo evidence showing Thasleem interacting with the group. However, he was last seen between 7:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. that day. He had expressed his desire to return to Malé, and when efforts were made to arrange a speedboat for him, he was nowhere to be found.

Investigation Progress

Police have confirmed that Thasleem did not take any other speedboat back to Malé, and his whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities have questioned all participants from the sandbank, including a separate group of 12 people who were present at the location on the same day. Thasleem’s phone and laptop have been seized for further investigation, and two speedboats used by the group have also been thoroughly searched.

In an effort to leave no stone unturned, police are now involving international law enforcement through Interpol to expand the search beyond Maldives.

Continued Efforts

The police have assured that they are keeping Thasleem’s family informed of any new developments as the investigation progresses. Despite extensive search and investigative efforts, including diving, questioning witnesses, and scouring electronic devices, the case continues to perplex authorities.
