The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced new travel regulations for Maldivians planning to visit the United Kingdom. According to recent changes in UK immigration policies, all Maldivians must now apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before traveling to the UK.
Starting from November 27, 2024, citizens of 49 countries, including the Maldives, will be required to obtain an ETA. This change is part of the UK government’s efforts to digitize border controls, enhance security, and prevent immigration system misuse.
An ETA will cost £10 and will be valid for two years. During this period, travelers can make multiple visits to the UK, with each stay lasting up to six months, or until their passport expires. From January 8, 2025, travel to the UK will only be allowed with a valid ETA. By April 2, 2025, all foreign nationals, excluding UK and Irish citizens, must obtain an ETA before traveling to the UK.
