President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, during the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York. The discussion highlighted the strong, brotherly ties between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia and explored avenues for further collaboration.
During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed his appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing support in the development of the Maldives. He emphasized the need for continued assistance in key areas such as fiscal reform, education, healthcare, and economic development. Additionally, the President raised matters concerning the Hajj pilgrimage, specifically requesting an increase in the Hajj quota for Maldivian pilgrims.
Prince Faisal responded by affirming Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing aid across various sectors and expressed a willingness to consider the request for a higher Hajj quota. He also extended his best wishes for the success of the UNGA sessions and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to support the Maldives on matters of mutual interest.
The meeting concluded with both parties reiterating their dedication to strengthening diplomatic relations and working together on shared goals.
