In addition to high-level talks in New Delhi, President Muizzu is set to visit Mumbai and Bengaluru, where he will participate in various business events aimed at fostering stronger economic ties between the nations.

The Indian Embassy in the Maldives confirmed President Muizzu’s visit via a statement, emphasizing the importance of this trip for both nations. The visit follows his attendance at the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi and the Council of Ministers in June 2024. It also builds on previous engagements, such as their meeting at the COP28 summit in Dubai in December 2023.

India, as a key maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), holds significant importance in the Maldives’ foreign policy. The visit aligns with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ (Security and Growth for All in the Region).

This visit comes shortly after the Indian External Affairs Minister’s visit to the Maldives, underscoring the mutual commitment to strengthening ties. The Government of India has extended full hospitality to President Muizzu and his delegation, with hopes of further enhancing cooperation and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

President Muizzu’s proactive diplomatic engagements reflect his continued commitment to fortifying the Maldives’ relationships with key partners and ensuring the country’s dynamic role in the region’s economic and security frameworks.
