President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized that intellectual development should be prioritized alongside infrastructure and housing in the nation’s efforts toward progress. In his national address on Saturday, marking the day the Maldives embraced Islam, the President underscored that building a well-rounded society requires equal focus on both education and physical infrastructure.
In his speech, which coincided with Teacher’s Day, President Muizzu paid special tribute to the role of educators in shaping the future of the country. He stressed the critical importance of instilling values such as humanity, discipline, and responsibility in students, and highlighted the need for teachers to foster a strong sense of national identity in the younger generation.
“Teachers play an indispensable role in molding our future leaders. Beyond academic knowledge, they must impart values rooted in Maldivian culture, ensuring that our youth grow up with a sense of accountability, hard work, and responsibility,” the President said.
However, President Muizzu also emphasized that the task of nurturing future generations is not limited to teachers alone. He called on all Maldivians to take personal responsibility in shaping the nation’s future, citing the Holy Quran’s message that transformation begins within oneself.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to intellectual development, President Muizzu recalled a previous address from February, where he outlined his vision for a balanced approach to nation-building, one that focuses on both the development of the nation’s people and its physical infrastructure.
The President’s remarks highlight the Maldivian government’s dedication to fostering a society that values education and personal growth as cornerstones of national progress.
