Malé City Mayor Adam Azim has expressed confidence in the smooth functioning of the city council, crediting the government’s ongoing support for its successful operations. He made these remarks during the Councilors Conference organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Kulhuduffushi City.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Azim stated that the Malé City Council had faced no significant challenges in carrying out its duties. He further revealed that 15 consultants had been appointed to assist the council, noting that all but one of the consultants are MDP members. According to the mayor, this team has been instrumental in helping the council carry out its responsibilities, which are crucial for improving the livelihoods of Malé residents.
Mayor Azim’s comments come at a time when the government’s collaboration with local councils remains a key focus. In recent remarks, he reiterated that the council continues to receive comprehensive support from the government, enabling the implementation of a wide range of initiatives aimed at the betterment of Malé.
The government’s relationship with local councils has been highlighted recently, as President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu became the first president to personally attend a ceremony of the Malé City Council. In addition to meeting with members of the council’s Women’s Development Committee, President Muizzu has also visited several local councils across the Maldives. During these visits, he listened to their concerns and reassured them of the government’s commitment to supporting local governance.
The collaboration between local councils and the national government has been widely seen as a vital component of ensuring the successful execution of community projects and improving public services.
