A Vision for 2040: President Muizzu Invites Public Input on National Development Plan

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the public consultation phase of the 20-Year National Development Plan on Wednesday at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE). In his address, President Muizzu highlighted the plan as a transformative blueprint for the nation, aimed at positioning the Maldives as a fully developed country by 2040. He emphasized that this long-term vision requires the active cooperation of citizens and various stakeholders to effectively design and implement measures benefiting current and future generations.

The President outlined that the development plan would prioritize advancements in modern technology, digital economy, and tackle the core issues facing Maldivians today. He underscored the importance of integrating input from all sections of society to ensure that the plan meets the needs of the people and supports sustainable growth.

Following his speech, a discussion panel commenced, including diverse voices from parents, teachers, students, institutions, civil society representatives, and those with medical needs, providing a platform for Maldivians to share their ideas on the country’s future direction.

The government has committed to completing the 20-Year National Development Plan within a year, and plans are underway to enshrine it in the Constitution, providing legal authority to ensure its longevity and alignment with national interests.
