“Low-carbon development is no longer an option but a necessity,” Dr. Muizzu stated, stressing the pressing need to reduce emissions to combat the worsening impacts of climate change. He highlighted that the Maldives and other vulnerable nations are determined to take proactive leadership in sustainable development, rather than remaining passive victims of climate-related threats.

Dr. Muizzu called for collective efforts and international cooperation, urging COP29 participants to prioritize climate finance and work together to set a meaningful global target. He noted that the Maldives’ active participation in global climate forums underscores its commitment to shaping a sustainable and resilient future, positioning itself as a model for other small island states striving to address climate challenges.

The President expressed confidence in the potential of forward-thinking, low-carbon policies to drive change, adding that the Maldives would continue to pioneer climate-resilient practices that safeguard its unique environment and secure its future. His remarks highlight the Maldives’ determination to lead by example and contribute meaningfully to global climate solutions.
