Vice President Highlights Global Recognition of President Muizzu’s Foreign Policy

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has praised President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s foreign policy, emphasizing its growing acceptance and endorsement on the global stage. Speaking to state media, PSM, the Vice President attributed the Maldives’ strengthened international relations and concessions in foreign diplomacy to the President’s strategic approach.

“The world has embraced President Muizzu’s policies,” said Vice President Hussain. “By fostering stronger ties with nations, especially those to which we owe significant debts, the government has secured notable diplomatic and financial achievements.” He noted that overcoming the country’s debt crisis was among the administration’s greatest challenges when it took office. Close cooperation with creditor nations has led to concessions that ease financial constraints, enabling the state to prioritize the welfare of its citizens.

A Collaborative Leadership Style

The Vice President also commended President Muizzu’s collaborative leadership, highlighting his inclusive decision-making process. “The President seeks input from all relevant parties, including the Cabinet, and relies on practical solutions. This ensures effective governance and teamwork,” said Hussain.

Vice President Hussain outlined the government’s focus on addressing pressing social issues, particularly housing. With a significant portion of the budget allocated to housing projects, he promised transformative initiatives in the coming months. “These efforts will provide meaningful solutions to longstanding challenges,” he remarked.

President Muizzu’s foreign policy has focused on fostering alliances with nations that share mutual interests. His active participation at international summits, including the recent Arab-Islamic Countries Summit and COP-29, has bolstered the Maldives’ global standing. Under his administration, bilateral agreements, such as free-visa arrangements with Azerbaijan and enhanced economic cooperation with regional partners, have demonstrated tangible benefits. These initiatives aim to retain foreign exchange within the Maldives and attract investment, ensuring sustainable growth.
