Thoddoo Council: Presidential Visit Vital for Island’s Growth

Thoddoo Island Council underscored the importance of direct Presidential engagement to address the island’s developmental challenges during a meeting with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday. The discussion was part of the President’s tour of islands in Alifu Alifu and Malé Atolls.

Council members emphasized that Presidential visits play a vital role in ensuring that the unique needs of islands like Thoddoo are prioritized in national development agendas. They raised several pressing issues, including the need for improved health services and called for the establishment of a modern health center. Additionally, they highlighted the space constraints at the island’s school and requested financial support to bolster the local economy.

In response, President Muizzu assured the council that these concerns align with his administration’s pledges. He confirmed that key initiatives, including a road development project for the island, have been earmarked in the government budget. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing island infrastructure and social services.

Cabinet Ministers accompanying the President provided updates on individual projects aimed at improving Thoddoo’s overall development. The President also took a moment to sign the council’s visitors’ book, marking his commitment to the island’s progress.

The Thoddoo visit is part of a broader initiative by President Muizzu to engage with local councils, Women’s Development Committees, and community members across various islands. The tour aims to address local concerns and evaluate ongoing and planned development projects in the atolls.
