President Declares January 2 as Additional Government Holiday

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared Thursday, January 2, 2025, as a government holiday, offering public sector employees an extended New Year break. The announcement was made through the President’s Office earlier this week.

The decision aims to provide government employees with a continuous period of rest by bridging the public holiday on January 1, which falls on a Wednesday, with the weekend. The President’s Office emphasized that the move is intended to allow employees to fully enjoy the holiday season with minimal disruption.

This announcement ensures that government offices will remain closed for four consecutive days, beginning with the New Year’s holiday and extending through Thursday, January 2, into the weekend.

The decision has been welcomed by many government employees, who view it as a thoughtful gesture to create a more relaxed and uninterrupted start to the new year.
