President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed strong confidence in the newly appointed Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Mauroof Jameel. Speaking to the press outside the President’s Office earlier today, President Muizzu praised Mauroof’s integrity and professionalism, describing him as the ideal leader to bring about positive change within the organization.
“I have full trust in Mauroof Jameel, who I appointed as HDC’s Managing Director today. He is a man of solid integrity and professionalism, and I am confident he will work with full commitment to address the challenges facing the corporation,” President Muizzu said.
The President emphasized his administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption and ensuring accountability in all government institutions. “We will not allow corruption in any office, ministry, or company. The necessary steps are being taken to resolve the issues surrounding HDC, and I am confident we will see improvements soon,” he added.
Mauroof Jameel’s appointment by the Privatization and Corporatization Board comes at a critical time for HDC, which is currently under scrutiny for alleged misconduct in the allocation of land plots under the Binveriyaa housing scheme. The previous Managing Director, Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, resigned amid a police investigation into the alleged irregularities.
Mauroof, a former Minister of Construction, brings decades of experience in architecture and urban planning to the role. He has played a significant part in the development of Hulhumalé since its inception and is well-known for his expertise in Maldivian architectural heritage, including coral stone architecture.
President Muizzu expressed optimism that Mauroof’s leadership would restore public trust in HDC and contribute to the government’s broader housing and urban development goals.
“The police investigation will uncover those responsible for the issues within HDC, and necessary action will be taken against them,” the President assured, reiterating his commitment to transparency and accountability.
Mauroof’s appointment marks a new chapter for HDC as the corporation works to regain public confidence and address the challenges stemming from recent controversies.
