Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has embarked on an official visit to Saudi Arabia to formalize the annual Hajj agreement between the two nations. The visit follows an official invitation from Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Tawfig Al-Rabiah.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Minister Shaheem is set to hold high-level discussions with Minister Al-Rabiah, focusing on matters related to the Hajj pilgrimage and broader areas of cooperation. The meetings aim to strengthen the collaboration between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia in facilitating the sacred journey for Maldivian pilgrims.
A key highlight of the visit is the formal signing of the annual Hajj agreement, which outlines the logistical arrangements and support for Maldivian pilgrims. This agreement is considered crucial in ensuring a well-organized and seamless pilgrimage experience.
Minister Shaheem’s itinerary also includes participation in the Hajj Conference and Exhibition 2025, which will take place in Jeddah. Organized by the Saudi government, the event brings together 280 exhibitors showcasing services aimed at improving the Hajj experience. The exhibition serves as a platform for discussions on enhancing services and addressing challenges related to the pilgrimage.
The Maldivian government has reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Hajj pilgrims and ensuring they receive the highest level of service during their spiritual journey. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs noted that improving the Hajj experience for Maldivians remains a core focus.
In line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral pledge, the administration is working to increase the Maldives’ annual Hajj quota. The President has pledged to raise the number of Maldivian pilgrims allowed to perform Hajj from 1,000 to 2,000 during his tenure, enabling more citizens to fulfill their religious obligations.
The visit underscores the continued efforts by the Maldivian government to strengthen bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia while enhancing opportunities for Maldivian pilgrims to embark on the annual pilgrimage with ease and dignity.
