President Muizzu Congratulates President Trump, Looks Forward to Stronger Cooperation

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended congratulations to U.S. President Donald Trump, underscoring the Maldives’ commitment to collaborate on advancing peace, prosperity, and security in the region and beyond.

In a letter addressed to the White House, President Muizzu highlighted the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and the United States—particularly as this year marks the 60th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations between the two nations. He emphasized that this milestone reflects the enduring strength of their partnership.

President Muizzu stressed that, as a small island nation in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives deeply values its ties with the United States. He reiterated the importance of working together to uphold democratic principles, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, as well as strengthening trade, economic cooperation, and defense collaboration.

Emphasizing shared objectives, President Muizzu noted his desire to collaborate with the new U.S. administration toward a more secure, stable, and prosperous world. He expressed confidence that both countries could find mutual benefit in addressing global challenges through joint initiatives.

In his concluding remarks, President Muizzu wished President Trump a successful term in office and expressed hopes for his continued health and wellbeing. He also took to social media platform X to reiterate his congratulations, wishing President Trump “wisdom and resolve” at a time when the world faces profound uncertainty.

The Maldives and the United States established formal diplomatic relations 60 years ago, an anniversary viewed by President Muizzu as an opportunity to reaffirm and deepen the partnership between the two nations.
