The government has extended national identity card and passport issuing services to Raa Atoll, aiming to make vital documentation processes more accessible across the country. The new services were inaugurated during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to the atoll, at a meeting with the residents of Ungoofaaru.
The launch ceremony featured Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan and Raa Atoll Council President Hussain Nasif, who jointly officiated the rollout. With Ungoofaaru serving as the atoll’s capital, its central location plays a pivotal role in catering to the daily needs of residents both from the island itself and nearby communities.
By bringing these essential services closer to home, officials say the expanded facilities will save time, reduce travel costs, and enhance convenience for local residents. The move is part of a broader push by the administration to ensure that public services are readily available to citizens in all corners of the Maldives.
