BCC and Fuvahmulah City Council Partner to Establish Creator Hub

The Business Center Corporation (BCC) has signed an agreement with the Fuvahmulah City Council to establish a Creator Hub in the city, marking a significant step in advancing the Maldives’ creative economy. The agreement was formalized during a ceremony on Saturday, with BCC Managing Director Ibrahim Ziyaau Mohamed and Fuvahmulah Mayor Ismail Rafeeq signing on behalf of their respective organizations.

Speaking at the event, Ziyaau emphasized the pivotal role of Creator Hubs in realizing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision for a thriving creative economy. “These hubs will not only stimulate creativity and innovation but also contribute to addressing societal challenges,” he said.

The Creator Hub initiative is part of a broader Creative Economy Strategy outlined in President Muizzu’s manifesto. Spanning five years, the strategy aims to integrate creative programs into educational curricula, provide incubation services, and offer resources to professionals and aspiring artists in fields such as filmmaking, music production, arts and crafts, and digital content creation.

The strategy also includes the establishment of a Creative Economy Fund, which provides financial support for individuals pursuing creative ventures. Initially focused on specific industries, such as filmmaking and music, the fund will expand to encompass additional creative fields starting in 2025.

Fuvahmulah’s Creator Hub is one of several planned across the Maldives, complementing the main hub in the capital, Malé. The initiative seeks to ensure accessibility for artists and innovators nationwide. As part of its commitment to fostering a vibrant creative sector, the BCC is also organizing creative confluences throughout the country to gather insights and feedback from artists.

“This initiative underscores our dedication to cultivating a sustainable and inclusive creative economy,” Ziyaau noted, adding that the Creator Hubs will serve as collaborative spaces for innovation and development.

The establishment of these hubs reflects the government’s focus on harnessing the potential of the creative industries, positioning the Maldives as a hub for artistic and cultural innovation.
