President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated the victorious candidates of the ruling Peoples’ National Congress (PNC) following a significant win in Saturday’s by-election, which saw the party secure 33 out of 37 available seats.
The by-election, held to elect members for local councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), proved to be a strong showing for the PNC. In a social media post, President Muizzu outlined the results, revealing that 24 of the 37 seats were uncontested, while the remaining 9 were earned through competitive elections. This brings the total number of seats won by the PNC to an impressive 33.
Among the key victories, the PNC secured one Atoll Council President seat, one Island Council President seat, and two Local Council seats. Furthermore, the party also claimed 29 seats on Women’s Development Committees, demonstrating its continued influence in local governance.
The President expressed his gratitude to the Almighty for the outcome and extended heartfelt congratulations to the winning candidates, their supporters, and all those who participated in the voting process. His message highlighted the significance of the victory, acknowledging the collective effort behind the success of the PNC in this crucial election.
