President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated the Judicial Year 2025 in a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre on Sunday night, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Maldivian judiciary.

The annual event serves as a platform to reflect on the achievements and challenges faced by the judicial sector over the past year while outlining key goals for the year ahead. It also fosters engagement among judges and judicial staff, encouraging discussion on ways to enhance the efficiency and integrity of the country’s legal system.

One of the significant moments of the evening was the recognition of a long-serving judge who was honoured upon retirement for their dedicated service to the judiciary.

During the ceremony, Chief Justice Uz Ahmed Muthasim Adnan delivered the Judicial Statement, underscoring the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring transparency and accountability in legal proceedings.

For the past eight years, the inauguration of the Judicial Year has been accompanied by special events and initiatives, with the exception of 2021. Continuing this tradition, the Judicial Symposium, a national-level conference aimed at enhancing judicial operations, will also be held this year.

The 2025 Judicial Symposium will focus on Islamic financing and the reconciliation of judicial and administrative practices in courts. The event is expected to bring together legal professionals, scholars, and policymakers to discuss strategies for improving the application of Islamic finance principles in the Maldivian judicial system.

With the start of a new judicial year, the government and judiciary reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the rule of law and ensuring the delivery of fair and efficient justice to the people of the Maldives.
