Minister of Islamic Affairs Calls for Compassionate Business Practices Ahead of Ramadan

As the Holy month of Ramadan approaches, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has called on local businessmen and traders to uphold values of generosity, compassion, and fairness in their practices. Speaking at the fourth forum of the ‘Ahaa’ series on Saturday evening, Dr. Shaheem emphasized that business transactions should be conducted in line with Islamic principles, highlighting the importance of compassion for both businesses and consumers.

Dr. Shaheem addressed the audience during the government’s interactive forum, where he fielded questions from citizens. He explained that business practices during Ramadan should reflect the core Islamic values of fairness, kindness, and support for those in need. He urged businesses to avoid unjustified price hikes during the month, which could place unnecessary burdens on the public.

While advocating for compassion in business, the Minister was clear that generosity should not come at the expense of businesses. “The most important characteristic on which everything should be based is kindness, compassion, generosity, brotherhood, morals, and helping others in need,” Dr. Shaheem stated, reinforcing the importance of balancing ethical practices with the sustainability of businesses.

The Minister also addressed the issue of dishonesty in business dealings, reminding the public that deceit is prohibited in Islam. He urged businesses and individuals to prioritize integrity and empathy, particularly as the nation prepares for Ramadan, a time marked by charity and goodwill.

Dr. Shaheem’s message reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that the spirit of Ramadan is upheld in both social and economic activities, fostering a climate of mutual respect and generosity throughout the community.
