Fenaka Corporation has announced plans to resolve the frequent power disruptions affecting Addu City by sending a new generator set to the region. The company has faced significant challenges in providing consistent electricity to the city due to ongoing technical issues with the generator sets at the Central Power Station, which services Hithadhoo and surrounding islands.
In a statement issued recently, Fenaka explained that three of the generators at the station are experiencing technical malfunctions, with one generator damaged beyond repair. These issues have resulted in intermittent power cuts across various areas of Addu City.
To address this problem, Fenaka has sourced a 1.8-megawatt generator set through an agreement with the State Electric Company. The generator has already been loaded onto a landing craft and is en route to Addu, where it is expected to help stabilize the power supply.
In addition to the new generator, Fenaka has made progress on repairing the damaged units. One generator has been successfully repaired and is now operational, while work on a second generator is expected to be completed by the end of this week. The company is also preparing to repair the third generator, with spare parts expected to arrive from abroad next week.
Fenaka has acknowledged the increasing electricity demand, particularly as the holy month of Ramadan approaches, with the city experiencing a surge in electricity use. The company also noted that Addu’s power issues have been exacerbated by ongoing development projects, further straining the electricity grid.
The corporation assured residents that efforts to ensure a steady power supply will continue, emphasizing their commitment to providing uninterrupted electricity to the people of Addu. Fenaka also expressed that the issues facing the city were the result of long-term neglect, with no meaningful efforts made in the past to resolve the situation.
To address the root causes of the power disruptions, Fenaka has outlined a long-term plan to permanently resolve the electricity issues in Addu City. The company is working under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, with plans to complete major infrastructure works within the next year and a half.
Fenaka’s ongoing efforts aim to restore reliable power to Addu City, ensuring that the growing population and increased demand for electricity, especially during Ramadan, are met with sustainable solutions.
