President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has outlined the Government’s plans to make fruits and vegetables more affordable, emphasizing efforts to boost local production and reduce reliance on imports.
Speaking on the “Rayyithunnaa Eku” podcast, an initiative by the President’s Office to engage directly with the public, Muizzu stressed the importance of food security and affordability. He acknowledged concerns over rising produce prices and shared the Administration’s strategy to tackle the issue.
A key part of the plan involves expanding domestic cultivation, which the President believes will help stabilize supply and drive down costs. By increasing local agricultural output, the Government aims to lessen dependence on imported goods, which are often subject to fluctuating prices due to global market conditions and logistical expenses.
In addition to supporting local farmers, Muizzu highlighted the role of the State Trading Organisation (STO) in maintaining a steady supply of essential produce. He noted that the Government is working to ensure that the most frequently consumed fruits and vegetables are available at lower prices through strategic sourcing and distribution efforts.
More details on these initiatives are expected in the coming weeks as the Government moves forward with its plans to strengthen the country’s food security and ease the cost of living.
