More than 550 development projects are set to commence across the Maldives in the next two months, marking a significant push in the Government’s efforts to accelerate infrastructure and community development.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu made the announcement during the first episode of Rayyithunaa Eku, a new podcast series launched by the President’s Office to improve direct engagement with the public.
Speaking on the podcast, President Muizzu emphasized that the Government is working at full speed to ensure development reaches all corners of the country. Among the key initiatives, he revealed that every inhabited island will receive a children’s park and a fitness centre within the next two years—part of a broader plan to enhance public spaces and promote healthier lifestyles.
Additionally, the President addressed concerns about fuel prices for fishermen, a crucial issue affecting the country’s fishing industry. He noted that efforts are underway to expand access to fuel at State Trading Organization (STO) rates, ensuring at least one island in every atoll receives fuel at these subsidized prices. This move aims to reduce operational costs for fishermen and strengthen the sector.
The Government had previously launched a similar programme in late 2023, allowing STO to offer discounted fuel in four atolls, with plans already in place for nationwide expansion.
With these ambitious projects set to roll out in the coming months, the Administration is positioning 2024 as a year of accelerated development, focusing on both economic growth and community well-being.
