New Generator Installed in Addu City to Tackle Power Outages

Fenaka Corporation has brought a 1.8 MW generator into operation in Addu City as part of efforts to stabilize the region’s electricity supply and curb frequent power outages.

The generator, sourced from India, arrived on Thursday night and was promptly installed by Fenaka’s technical team, who worked around the clock to ensure its immediate deployment. The move comes in response to widespread power disruptions in Addu, where most of the 19 existing generators have sustained severe damage due to prolonged use and lack of maintenance.

Officials have attributed the deterioration of power infrastructure to inadequate overhauls under the previous administration, leaving the city vulnerable to recurring blackouts. When the current Government took office, it identified significant shortcomings in power plants nationwide, prompting an urgent response to prevent further disruptions.

The administration has prioritized resolving Addu City’s electricity crisis with a long-term goal of ensuring a stable power supply for at least five years. Fenaka has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the issue, emphasizing that restoring reliable electricity remains its top priority.

Alongside deploying the new generator, the Government is also working with Fenaka to import crucial spare parts to repair malfunctioning engines across the country. The broader objective is to ensure an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply nationwide, strengthening the Maldives’ energy infrastructure for greater reliability.
