As the academic year 2025 commenced across the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed the central role of education in shaping a prosperous and resilient nation, describing it as both the foundation and the engine of national development.
In a nationwide address marking the start of the new school term, President Muizzu extended heartfelt well-wishes to students, parents, teachers, and education sector professionals. He drew attention to the teachings of the Holy Quran on the value of knowledge, and emphasised the government’s firm commitment to strengthening the Maldivian education system.
“Education is the most important investment we can make as a nation,” President Muizzu said, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education and ensure access for all children, regardless of where they live.
Outlining the government’s education agenda, the President detailed plans to improve school infrastructure, invest in teacher training, and create nurturing learning environments. He stressed that every student in the Maldives should have access to quality education that inspires pride among families and communities.
President Muizzu also called on society at large to actively contribute to the nation’s educational progress. He urged teachers and parents to serve as positive role models, saying their cooperation is vital to guiding the next generation towards success. “The responsibility of raising capable, well-rounded citizens lies with all of us,” he said.
Reflecting on the blessings of intellect and the ability to think—gifts he described as among humanity’s greatest—Muizzu warned of the consequences of neglecting education. He cautioned that failure to nurture knowledge could lead society toward division and ignorance.
The President further stressed the importance of creating opportunities for students to thrive on both national and global stages. He encouraged the public to remain engaged and committed throughout the school year, underlining that national development depends on the growth and empowerment of its youth.
Addressing educators directly, he urged them to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and purpose. To parents, he called for steadfast support in providing a strong educational foundation for their children. And to students, he offered a message of encouragement—reminding them to seize every opportunity to learn and grow from a young age.
President Muizzu also shared his sentiments on the occasion via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, extending warm greetings to everyone working in or benefiting from the education sector.
With the new academic year underway, the government’s renewed focus on education signals a broader push to equip the next generation of Maldivians with the tools and mindset needed to lead the country into the future.
