President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with Singapore’s Non-Resident High Commissioner, His Excellency Soo Kok Leng, at the President’s Office on Monday, reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to deepening bilateral ties with the Southeast Asian nation.
The courtesy call, which marked a continuation of the warm diplomatic relationship between the two countries, focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors such as higher education, healthcare, and tourism. Both sides also discussed the potential for broader collaboration across emerging areas of mutual interest.
President Muizzu used the opportunity to highlight his administration’s priorities, particularly in boosting foreign investment in trade, economic development, and housing. He also expressed a desire for enhanced technical cooperation in the housing sector — a critical component of the government’s urban development agenda.
During the meeting, the President outlined his vision for building a sustainable and environmentally conscious city powered by renewable energy, inviting Singapore’s expertise in green development and smart city planning.
The High Commissioner welcomed the proposals, noting the strong foundation of trust and cooperation between the two nations. The discussions concluded with both parties expressing a shared commitment to further strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering strategic partnerships that benefit both countries.
Singapore and the Maldives have long maintained cordial relations, with growing interest in enhancing cooperation on infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, and regional connectivity.
