The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has officially begun the search for a new Commissioner of Police after the resignation of former commissioner Ali Shujau earlier this month.
In an announcement made on Sunday, the Ministry invited qualified candidates to apply for the top post in the Maldives Police Service. According to the criteria outlined, applicants must currently hold the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or higher. The deadline for submitting applications has been set for 12:00 p.m. on June 2, 2025.
The selection process will be overseen by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who is constitutionally mandated to appoint the Commissioner. The appointment will be made based on a review of qualifications or through an interview process, and will follow recommendations from the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology.
Until a new commissioner is formally appointed, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has been assigned to lead the force in an acting capacity.
Ali Shujau’s departure comes amid ongoing efforts to restructure and strengthen law enforcement operations across the country. The appointment of a new commissioner is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the Maldives Police Service.
