President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives held a high-level meeting with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Saturday at the historic Al-Mina Palace. The meeting took place during a special reception hosted by the Crown Prince in honour of global dignitaries and Hajj delegation leaders visiting the Kingdom.
The reception, organised on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, brought together a distinguished gathering of heads of state, prominent guests, and senior officials from Muslim-majority countries taking part in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
President Muizzu, who is in the Kingdom at the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the Saudi government for their exceptional hospitality and the dedicated arrangements made for Maldivian pilgrims. This year, Maldivian Hajj-goers benefitted from streamlined support, reflecting the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed expanding cooperation across a range of sectors, reinforcing their shared commitment to deepen the long-standing fraternal relationship between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia. Key areas of focus included mutual economic interests, Islamic solidarity, and regional collaboration.
Accompanying President Muizzu was a senior delegation comprising the Minister of Finance and Planning, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, as well as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chief of Protocol.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was joined by several top-ranking Saudi officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, Minister of the National Guard, Minister of Interior, Minister of Sports, and the Deputy Governor of Makkah.
Saudi Arabia’s invitation to President Muizzu to perform Hajj this year underlines the continued diplomatic warmth and religious fellowship between the two countries. The visit is expected to pave the way for deeper cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially in Islamic affairs, development, and regional diplomacy.
