President Muizzu Announces Salary Hike for Civil Service, Judiciary, and Councils

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed a salary hike for employees working in the civil service, judiciary, and local councils, effective 1 November 2025.

The decision, revealed through the President’s official social media platforms, delivers on a key pledge outlined in his Presidential Address earlier this year. The move is part of the administration’s broader pay harmonisation programme, which seeks to bring greater fairness and consistency to the public sector’s wage structure.

According to the government, the latest adjustment will primarily benefit staff in the three sectors who were excluded from earlier rounds of pay revisions. President Muizzu stressed that the objective is to standardise public sector remuneration, reducing disparities across different arms of government.

Looking ahead, the President pledged that all remaining government employees whose salaries have not yet been reviewed will see adjustments rolled out in the coming year.

The initiative is expected to improve the livelihoods of thousands of workers while also strengthening the country’s administrative and judicial frameworks. Observers note that the policy could have a wide-ranging impact, not only boosting household incomes but also contributing to greater institutional stability.
