Maldives Wins Bronze for World’s Most Desirable Island at 2025 Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards

The Maldives has secured Bronze in the category of World’s Most Desirable Island(s) at the 2025 Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, reaffirming the country’s enduring global appeal and strong connection with the British travel market.

The award was received by Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), during a ceremony held at the National Gallery in London. The event brought together leaders from across the global tourism industry to celebrate excellence across 22 award categories, recognising destinations, airlines, and tour operators that champion responsible and meaningful travel.

This year’s awards saw remarkable engagement, with more than 208,000 readers casting a total of 4.8 million votes to determine the winners. The results reflect the opinions and experiences of seasoned travellers, who continue to rank the Maldives among the most sought-after destinations in the world.

“We are honoured to see the Maldives recognised once again by the readers of Wanderlust,” said Ibrahim Shiuree, speaking after the ceremony. “This award highlights the deep and lasting bond between the Maldives and British travellers, who continue to see our islands as a haven of natural beauty, culture, and authentic experiences.”

Now in its 24th year, the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards remain among the most prestigious recognitions in the global travel sector. The 2025 edition was hosted by British presenter and adventurer Simon Reeve and organised in partnership with Visit Oman.

The recognition further cements the Maldives’ position as a top-tier island destination, admired worldwide for its pristine beaches, luxury hospitality, and commitment to sustainable tourism.
