President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has introduced a unified system of official reference numbers for a wide range of government agencies, in a move aimed at improving clarity, efficiency, and consistency in public sector communication.
The allocations—issued through Directive No. 19/2025 and published on the President’s Office website—apply to all state schools, healthcare facilities, and centres responsible for social and family protection. Cultural and research institutions, including the Maldives Marine Research Institute, the National Museum, and the National Art Gallery, have also been assigned unique reference numbers under the new framework.
According to the directive, all government offices must now use the designated numbers when corresponding with these institutions. Officials say the system is intended to standardise administrative exchanges and reduce delays caused by inconsistent or unclear referencing practices.
The President’s Office noted that the reform forms part of broader efforts to modernise state operations and strengthen institutional coordination across ministries, agencies, and public service providers.
Further guidance on implementation is expected to be circulated to government offices in the coming days.
