Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company (CMC) has announced the resumption of Hulhumale Phase 3 dredging operations today. The project recommenced following a temporary halt mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last year.
Initiated in September 2023, the dredging activities were put on hold as part of precautionary measures directed by the EPA. Despite the interruption, 23 hectares of land had already undergone dredging before the suspension order took effect. Now, with the green light from regulatory authorities, CMC has resumed operations today with the goal of dredging an additional 40 hectares.
Hulhumale Phase 3 land reclamation project is being managed by UK based Capital Marine And Civil Construction Company (CMC). The UK company were contracted by HDC to reclaim a total of 63 hectares under this project.
CMC has deployed two dredgers for the land reclamation project. This marks the first time that dual dredgers have been utilized for land reclamation in the Maldives, showcasing CMC’s innovative approach to enhancing efficiency in marine construction.

Looking forward, CMC plans to increase its fleet to three dredgers by year-end, aiming to expedite completion of all ongoing projects across the Maldives.
