Md. Golam Sarwar, the Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), arrived in the Maldives today for an introductory visit. Sarwar, who assumed his role as the 15th Secretary General of SAARC in July 2023, is making his first official trip to the island nation.
During his visit, Secretary General Sarwar is scheduled to meet with several high-ranking officials, including President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer. Additionally, he will hold discussions with Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya.
Sarwar’s visit is set to conclude on August 8, 2024. Accompanying him on this trip are his spouse, Taslima Sarwar, as well as Ms. Shahiya Ali Manik and Mr. Bhavesh R. Trivedi, both directors at the SAARC Secretariat.
Md. Golam Sarwar, a distinguished Bangladeshi diplomat, was appointed as the SAARC Secretary General in July 2023. He is the third Bangladeshi to hold this position. Prior to this role, Sarwar served as Bangladesh’s ambassador to Oman and Sweden and as the consul general in Jeddah.
