President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to bolstering the longstanding and close ties between the Maldives and India. Speaking at a ceremony held at the President’s Office today, where the completion of water supply and sewerage facilities on 28 islands was officially marked, President Muizzu highlighted the vital role India has played as one of the Maldives’ closest allies.
The projects, funded through India’s Line of Credit Facility via EXIM Bank of India, were described by President Muizzu as key milestones in the bilateral relationship between the two nations. He emphasized that these developments would significantly benefit local economies and contribute to the overall prosperity of the Maldives.
During his address, President Muizzu expressed deep gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian government, and the people of India for their continued and generous support. He also recalled his recent visit to India, where he attended Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony and had the opportunity to meet both the Prime Minister and Indian President Droupadi Murmu.
President Muizzu further noted the importance of the High Impact Community Development Projects under Indian Grant Assistance, highlighting them as evidence of the close socioeconomic collaboration between the two countries. He praised the ongoing initiatives under this program and emphasized the goal of accelerating their implementation in Maldivian communities.
Concluding his remarks, President Muizzu reflected on the centuries-old friendship and mutual respect that have defined the relationship between the Maldives and India. He expressed optimism about the future of Maldives-India cooperation, anticipating continued growth and prosperity in the partnership.
The ceremony also acknowledged the efforts of Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who is currently on an official visit to the Maldives, in strengthening the relations between the two nations.
