Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer, has departed for an official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, following an invitation from Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The visit, which will take place from August 11 to 15, aims to strengthen the longstanding bilateral ties between the two nations and explore new areas of cooperation.
During his visit, Minister Zameer is set to engage in high-level discussions with Dr. Al Zayani, focusing on reviewing the 44 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bahrain. The talks are expected to cover a range of mutual interests and future collaboration opportunities.
In addition to his meeting with the Foreign Minister, Minister Zameer is scheduled to hold talks with other senior officials in the Bahraini government. These include the Minister of Finance and National Economy, the Minister of Oil and Environment, and the Minister of Tourism. The discussions will aim to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various sectors, including finance, energy, and tourism.
Minister Zameer is accompanied by a delegation of senior Maldivian officials, including Ambassador-at-Large Ahmed Naseer, Secretary of Bilateral Affairs Dr. Hala Hameed, Joint Secretary Mariyam Reesha, and Assistant Director Mizna Waheed.
The visit builds on a history of high-level exchanges between the Maldives and Bahrain, with previous visits by former Maldivian presidents underscoring the importance of this diplomatic relationship. Most recently, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih undertook a state visit to Bahrain in 2022, following former President Mohamed Nasheed’s official visit in 2010.
This visit by Minister Zameer is expected to further solidify the bond between the Maldives and Bahrain, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in key areas of shared interest.
