Parliament Speaker Embarks on Official Visit to China

Speaker of the Maldives Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has departed for an official visit to China. Accompanying him on this visit are three other members of Parliament: Vilimale MP Mohamed Ismail, Haa Alif Baarashu MP Ibrahim Shujau, and Addu Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid.

The delegation is attending the “2024 Inter-Regional Seminar on the Achievement of the SDGs for Parliaments of Developing Countries,” scheduled to take place from August 19th to 28th in Beijing. This seminar will provide a platform for parliamentarians from developing nations to discuss strategies for accelerating the implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through enhanced parliamentary cooperation.

This marks Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla’s first official international visit since assuming his role as Speaker of the Maldives Parliament.

The seminar, jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the National People’s Congress of China, will also commemorate the 40th anniversary of China’s accession to the IPU.
