Authorities have arrested a 32-year-old Bangladeshi man on suspicion of killing stray cats and using their meat to prepare food. The man, identified as Arfat Hossain, was taken into police custody following concerns raised by the public on social media, prompting an investigation.
The arrest was confirmed by Immigration Controller Mohammed Shammaan, who noted that Hossain was already wanted by the Immigration Department. Hossain was apprehended at 10:32 AM today after being actively sought by immigration officers.
The search for Hossain intensified when immigration officials visited his residence and found him missing. His name was subsequently made public, with a notice for him to appear before immigration within five days. The case was brought to light after Immigration Watch received a report alleging that Hossain had been killing cats and using their meat in food preparation.
The Ministry of Animal Welfare also reported the matter to the police, who are now conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations. This incident has sparked significant public outcry, with many expressing their concerns over social media.
The Immigration Department has been cracking down on foreigners involved in the preparation and sale of food without adhering to proper hygiene standards.
