The Maldives Police Service has reported the recovery of stolen and lost items valued at over MVR 19.2 million in 2024, according to newly released statistics.
The report provides an overview of the activities carried out by Malé Frontline Policing, Thilamale’ Police, and the Traffic Police and Road Management units over the past year.
A total of 1,653 recovered items accounted for a combined value of MVR 19,209,665.50. Among the recovered items were 206 mobile phones worth MVR 1.98 million and 253 motorcycles valued at MVR 11.49 million.
In addition, 107 electronic devices amounting to MVR 986,843.42 and 333 miscellaneous goods valued at MVR 551,206.62 were retrieved. Police also recovered MVR 3.58 million in cash from 374 separate cases, alongside 380 other recovered items valued at MVR 615,813.56.
The police report highlighted a total of 5,242 reported cases for the year, including 2,290 incidents of theft and 2,025 road accidents. Other notable cases included 414 reports of robbery, 236 drug-related offenses, and 358 assault cases.
The Maldives Police Service has reiterated its commitment to enhancing safety and security in the capital and surrounding areas through improved response times and proactive measures. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to aid law enforcement efforts.
The report underscores the significant volume of criminal incidents reported in 2024 while demonstrating the strides made in recovering stolen assets and addressing public concerns.
