Dhaalu Uhdhoo Officially Opens for Public Visits Starting April 16

Residents and visitors will be able to travel to Dhaalu Uhdhoo starting April 16, following the island’s official opening for public use by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works.

The ministry made the announcement on Monday, confirming that access to Uhdhoo will be allowed on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The move is part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s broader pledge to enhance access to local islands and improve inter-island connectivity, especially within South Nilandhe Atoll.

Uhdhoo, which has been designated as a picnic island, is expected to become a popular leisure destination for nearby island communities. Authorities have urged the public to respect the natural environment and follow established regulations during visits, with a special emphasis on maintaining cleanliness.

Those wishing to plan trips to the island can do so by contacting the designated phone lines at 9108899 or 7777848 for further information and assistance.

The opening of Uhdhoo to the public reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to boost local tourism and provide more recreational spaces for Maldivians while ensuring sustainable use of natural resources.
