Maldives Invites Bids for Resort Development in Kaashidhoo Lagoon

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced an open call for bids to develop and operate a new tourist resort in Kaashidhoo lagoon, Malé Atoll, as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s housing and economic pledges.

According to the Ministry, the project will see a portion of the 115.21-hectare lagoon dredged to create a 10-hectare resort island. The proposed resort must include a minimum capacity of 100 beds.

Both local and international companies are eligible to submit bids, with the deadline set for 1:00 p.m. on 20 November 2025. Tender documents can be purchased through the Ministry’s website or collected from its reception during working hours between 14 September and 19 November.

To assist interested parties, the Ministry will host two information sessions. The first meeting will be held online on 24 September, while the second will take place on 21 October.

Officials noted that the Kaashidhoo lagoon development is expected to support the government’s broader vision of expanding tourism capacity while creating economic opportunities in Malé Atoll.
