Elections Commission Begins Nationwide Distribution of Polling Materials Ahead of April 4 Vote

Malé, Maldives – The Elections Commission (EC) has commenced the nationwide distribution of polling materials in preparation for the upcoming elections scheduled for April 4, with logistics operations now in full swing across the country.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Commission confirmed that essential election materials, including ballot papers, ballot boxes, and polling equipment, are being dispatched to islands via both air and sea transport to ensure timely delivery ahead of polling day.

A total of 347 polling stations will be set up nationwide to facilitate three simultaneous voting processes:

  • Local Council Elections

  • Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections

  • Public Referendum on aligning future presidential and parliamentary elections

The large-scale operation reflects the EC’s preparations to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process across all regions.

According to the Commission, air shipments scheduled for Saturday will deliver materials to:
Haa Alifu, Raa, Thaa, Laamu, Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Seenu Atolls, as well as Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.

Meanwhile, sea transport is being used to distribute supplies to:
Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Noonu, Baa, Lhaviyani, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, and Dhaalu Atolls.

The phased distribution is being carried out with the assistance of the Maldives Police Service, ensuring secure and coordinated delivery of all materials.

The EC stated that most regions are expected to receive materials by Saturday night, while distribution to Kaafu Atoll is scheduled for March 30 and 31.

With preparations progressing as planned, the Commission is working to ensure that the country is fully equipped for a seamless and transparent election process, enabling voters across the Maldives to participate in the upcoming polls.
