The matter of securing parliamentary approval for ministers appointed under the recent Cabinet reshuffle has been referred to a committee of the People’s Majlis for review.
The reshuffle, carried out on the 14th and 15th of this month by President Mohamed Muizzu, saw the number of ministries reduced from 20 to 15. As part of the restructuring, 10 ministers stepped down, citing the need to facilitate reforms aligned with the administration’s policy direction.
Ministers Await Parliamentary Consent
Under Maldivian law, ministers who assume office following Cabinet changes require formal approval from Parliament to exercise full legal authority.
In line with this requirement, the President has submitted the names of 14 ministers to the Majlis for endorsement. The list includes five newly appointed ministers and nine who were reappointed and sworn in again after the restructuring.

- Hassan Rasheed – Minister of Defence and National Service
- Moosa Zameer – Minister of Finance and State-Owned Enterprises
- Ali Ihusaan – Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology
- Iruthisham Adam – Minister of Foreign Affairs
- Dr Ismail Shafeeu – Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development
- Geela Ali – Minister of Health, Family and Social Assistance
- Mohamed Saeed – Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade
- Ahmed Shiyam – Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources
- Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed – Minister of Islamic Affairs and Awqaf
- Mohamed Ameen – Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation
- Abdulla Rafiu – Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness
- Heena Waleed – Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage
- Abdulla Muththalib – Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development
- Ali Shareef – Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy
Committee Review Underway
The request has been forwarded to the Government Oversight Committee, which will examine the appointments before presenting its findings to the full مجلس.
A final decision on whether to grant approval will be made through a vote on the parliamentary floor following the committee’s review.
Part of Broader Cabinet Restructuring
The Cabinet changes form part of a broader effort by the administration to streamline government operations and introduce policy adjustments in response to current national priorities.
Officials say the outcome of the Majlis vote will determine the formalisation of the new Cabinet lineup.
