NSPA Expands to Addu as Demand for Social Services Grows

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has announced plans to establish a dedicated call centre in Addu City next month as part of ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and enhance service delivery for people across the country.

The new facility is expected to begin operations in July and will support the agency’s growing range of social welfare and assistance programmes.

NSPA Chief Executive Officer Aminath Shiruna revealed the development in a social media post, stating that the expansion of call centre operations to Addu City will help bring services closer to the public while improving response times and customer support.

According to Shiruna, the initiative will also allow the agency to extend call centre operating hours, making it easier for citizens to obtain information and assistance regarding various social protection programmes.

The NSPA is responsible for administering several key welfare schemes aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, low-income households and persons with disabilities.

Many of these services are now available through the government’s digital platform, oneGov, allowing applicants to submit requests and access assistance online.

Programmes currently available through the platform include financial assistance for single-parent households living in poverty, food assistance for low-income families, thalassemia allowances, disability-related support services and therapeutic treatment assistance for persons with disabilities.

The system also facilitates applications for financial support provided to foster children living without parental care as well as assistance available to their guardians.

To help the public navigate these services, NSPA currently operates its national hotline, 1402, which provides information on healthcare-related welfare assistance, disability benefits, application procedures and other services administered by the agency.

The launch of a call centre in Addu is expected to strengthen the agency’s outreach efforts in the southern region while reducing barriers faced by individuals seeking support and information.

The move comes as the government continues to expand digital and customer-focused public services, with increasing emphasis on improving accessibility and efficiency across state institutions.

Officials believe the new call centre will play an important role in ensuring that individuals and families requiring social assistance can access information and support more easily, regardless of where they live in the country.
