A total of 352 young Maldivians from 125 islands have begun basic training under the fourth batch of the National Service Programme, as the government continues its efforts to promote discipline, patriotism and personal development among the country’s youth.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the commencement of the latest training programme on Saturday, extending his encouragement to the participants and urging them to approach the experience with determination and perseverance.

According to figures shared by the President, the fourth batch comprises 288 young men and 64 young women, representing communities across the Maldives.

The participation of young people from 125 islands highlights the programme’s nationwide reach, bringing together individuals from different parts of the country for a shared training experience.

In a message published on his official social media platforms, President Muizzu wished the participants success as they embarked on their training, encouraging them to remain committed to completing the programme.

He expressed confidence that the government’s ongoing efforts to develop a generation of patriotic, disciplined and determined young Maldivians would contribute to building a stronger foundation for the country’s future.

The National Service Programme is a government initiative aimed at providing young Maldivians with structured training while encouraging personal responsibility, discipline, teamwork and a sense of national service.

The programme forms part of broader efforts to equip young people with practical skills and values that can support their personal development and future contributions to society.

Through its initial basic training component, participants are introduced to a structured environment designed to develop physical and mental resilience, cooperation and the ability to work towards shared objectives.

The training also provides an opportunity for young people from different islands to interact, build friendships and gain experience working alongside individuals from diverse communities.

The fourth batch follows earlier rounds of training conducted under the National Service Programme.

Earlier this month, 73 participants graduated from the programme’s second batch after completing a 16-week training course.

That graduating group included 60 young men and 13 young women from 17 atolls, reflecting the programme’s efforts to engage young people from across the country.

The commencement of the fourth batch represents a continuation of the government’s national service initiative, with successive groups of participants entering training as earlier batches complete their courses.

For an island nation where communities are spread across a wide geographical area, programmes bringing together young people from different regions can also provide opportunities to strengthen social connections and a shared sense of national identity.

President Muizzu has placed emphasis on youth development as part of his administration’s broader policy priorities, including efforts to expand training opportunities and encourage greater participation in national development.

In his latest message, the President reiterated the importance of perseverance and commitment, expressing hope that the participants would successfully complete their training and carry the values developed during the programme into their future lives.

With 352 participants now beginning their training, the fourth batch adds to the growing number of young Maldivians taking part in the National Service Programme.

The President expressed optimism that the initiative would help nurture a generation equipped with the determination, discipline and commitment needed to contribute to the Maldives’ future.
