The US Government has extended an additional $8.5 million in assistance to the Maldives under the Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG). This new funding was formalized through the 14th amendment to the DOAG between the Maldives and the United States.
The signing ceremony took place today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheryna Abdul Samad, signed the amendment on behalf of the Maldivian government, while USAID Mission Director Gabriel Grau represented the US Government.
This amendment brings the total amount of aid provided by the US to the Maldives under the DOAG to $45.7 million. The agreement aims to enhance the Maldives’ technical capacity in managing public finances and to strengthen its economic and democratic governance.
In recent years, the financial support from the US has seen a gradual increase, reflecting the growing partnership between the two nations. The ceremony was attended by officials from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the USAID Mission to the Maldives, underscoring the importance of this collaboration.
This significant boost in funding is expected to further support the Maldives in achieving its developmental objectives and improving governance structures.
