Aasandha Denies Cutting Off Patient’s Insurance in Bangalore

Aasandha Company has refuted social media claims suggesting that the Aasandha insurance for a 65-year-old patient receiving treatment at Aster CMI Hospital in Bangalore has been cut off. The company issued a press statement clarifying the situation.

The patient, who suffers from hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, was flown from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Bangalore with the assistance of the Zakat Fund and an air ambulance. Aasandha confirmed that the state has provided more than MVR 1.5 million in financial support for his treatment, including coverage from Aasandha, the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), and the Zakat Fund.

Aasandha explained that the patient was admitted to Aster CMI for intensive rehabilitation, including physical, occupational, speech, and swallowing therapy, as well as hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The company approved all hospital bills submitted up until August. However, after five months of treatment, there was little change in the patient’s condition.

On August 14, the patient’s family was advised to transfer him back to the Maldives with ventilator support for further care. Aasandha stated that alternative rehabilitation options are available locally and that long-term rehabilitation abroad is not covered under the Aasandha insurance scheme. The family was given a three-day window to arrange the transfer.

As of August 18, the patient’s hospital bill had reached $89,339.91, of which Aasandha has approved $85,989.15 after deductions for non-covered expenses.

Aasandha Company reassured that it continues to provide support for the patient’s treatment and that all expenses under the scheme have been fully approved.
