President Dissolves Maldives Land and Survey Authority

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has dissolved the Maldives Land and Survey Authority, an agency previously operated under the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development. The decision was officially announced by the President’s Office today.

The dissolution of the authority falls under the constitutional powers granted to the president, as detailed in the statement. Responsibilities and functions formerly managed by the Land and Survey Authority will now be transferred to the Ministry of Housing.

The move aims to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the authority’s operations, aligning them more closely with the government’s broader objectives.

The Maldives Land and Survey Authority was originally established to conduct research on land and sea usage within the Maldives. However, its abolition follows the recent approval of the Urban Planning and Management Act, which mandates that the country’s lands be utilized in ways that maximize economic and social benefits.

With these changes, the government seeks to streamline land management and ensure the effective use of resources in line with national development priorities.
