The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which manages Velana International Airport (VIA), has announced the distribution of annual bonuses, providing MVR 25,000 (approximately USD 1621) to each eligible employee. The bonus was deposited alongside the September salary, marking a continuation of the company’s tradition of rewarding its staff.
As in previous years, all employees who worked throughout the entirety of the past year received the MVR 25,000 bonus. With MACL employing around 3,000 people, the total payout for this year amounts to approximately MVR 75 million. This bonus has been a consistent part of the company’s compensation strategy, reinforcing MACL’s commitment to its workforce.
The bonus structure applies to those employed for more than six months of the year, including employees who may have been terminated after completing six months, provided their dismissal was not due to ethical violations. However, employees dismissed for ethical misconduct are not eligible for the bonus.
MACL, one of the country’s most profitable state-owned enterprises, recorded a profit of MVR 1.1 billion last year, a 20% increase from the MVR 868 million profit in 2022.
