The Maldives is carving out a stronger presence on the global stage, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel. In remarks to state media PSM following the Arab-Islamic Countries Summit in Saudi Arabia and the COP29 Summit in Azerbaijan, Minister Khaleel attributed the nation’s growing diplomatic influence to the leadership and proactive foreign policy of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Dr. Khaleel highlighted the Maldives’ advocacy for Palestinian rights during the Saudi summit, where President Muizzu personally reaffirmed the country’s commitment to supporting humanitarian causes. The Maldives stood firmly with the Arab-Islamic community, calling for greater international attention and action on Palestine.
Following the summit in Saudi Arabia, President Muizzu and his delegation attended COP29 in Azerbaijan, where environmental concerns took center stage. Minister Khaleel noted that the Maldives used the platform to bolster bilateral relationships and strengthen ties with nations around the world. As part of these efforts, President Muizzu secured an agreement with Azerbaijan to offer free visas for Maldivians traveling to the country, with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev pledging continued support for this initiative.
Dr. Khaleel emphasized that these summits were not just symbolic but integral to expanding the Maldives’ diplomatic reach and influence. “President Muizzu’s active role in global discussions showcases our nation’s commitment to addressing pressing international issues and fostering robust partnerships,” he stated.
As the Maldives continues to champion key causes such as climate change, humanitarian advocacy, and international cooperation, the country is steadily establishing itself as an influential player in global diplomacy under President Muizzu’s leadership.
