The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a nationwide white alert, warning of turbulent weather conditions and advising caution for seafarers. According to the MET, strong winds ranging from 19 to 24 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph in certain areas, are expected over the coming days.
The advisory comes as the Maldives faces the effects of a developing cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. The system, which has intensified into a full cyclone, is significantly influencing local weather patterns. While the entire country is under alert, the MET forecasts the southern atolls will experience the most severe weather conditions.
Authorities have urged the public, particularly those traveling by sea, to exercise vigilance. High winds and rough seas pose risks for both local fishing vessels and inter-island transportation.
The adverse weather is predicted to persist for at least two days, with the MET closely monitoring the situation. Updates and additional advisories will be issued as necessary to ensure public safety.
