Temporary Closure of Majeedhee Magu for Flood Prevention Works

A section of Majeedhee Magu, one of Malé’s busiest roads, has been temporarily closed to facilitate drainage improvement efforts aimed at resolving long-standing flooding issues in the capital city.

The closure, announced by the Malé City Council, affects the area in front of Malé Grand and marks the start of a phased project to improve the drainage system on Majeedhee Magu. The initial phase of the work, which began on December 28, 2024, is scheduled to continue until January 4, 2025.

The project will be carried out in block sections to minimize disruptions, with the first block currently under construction. The temporary traffic changes will impact the stretch of Majeedhee Magu between Chaandhanee Magu and Rahdhebai Magu.

In their announcement, the City Council provided a map of alternative traffic routes and apologized for any inconvenience caused to road users. The Council emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader plan to address persistent flooding issues, which have frequently disrupted daily life in the city during heavy rainfall.

The drainage improvement project reflects ongoing initiatives by local authorities to enhance infrastructure and ensure smoother traffic flow and safer conditions for residents of Malé. Road users are encouraged to follow the new traffic routes and exercise patience as the works progress.
